Block unwanted emails

If you’re getting emails you don’t want in your inbox, you can block the sender, unsubscribe from the sender, or report the message depending on the type of email.

Block a sender

Emails from senders you block will be sent to your spam folder.

Computer

1. Open the email.
2. At the top right of the email, click the down arrow.
3. Click Block [sender].

If you blocked someone by mistake, you can unblock them using the same steps.

Android phone or tablet

1. Open the email.
2. On the top right of the message, touch the gray menu .
3. Touch Block [sender].

View and edit senders you’ve blocked

1. On a computer, open Gmail.
2. Click the gear icon .
3. Click Settings.
4. Click Filters and Blocked Addresses and scroll to the bottom.

You might be subscribed to a site that sends you frequent updates, like emails about upcoming sales. To unsubscribe to these emails:

Computer

1. Open one of the emails.
2. Click the Unsubscribe or Change Preferences link at the bottom.

If you don’t see these links, you can block the sender (see instructions at the top of this article), or mark it as spam.

Android phone or tablet

1. Open the email.
2. At the very top right, touch the white menu .
3. Touch Unsubscribe.

If you see a suspicious email asking for personal information, you can report the email for phishing.

Computer

1. Open Gmail.
2. Open the email you'd like to report.
3. At the top right of the message next to the Reply button, click the down arrow.
4. Select Report Phishing.

Remember, every time you report spam or phishing, it helps us identify those emails as spam for you in the future.
