How to turn on chat heads on Facebook Messenger

Answer for Android Messenger UI changes from January 9, 2019

1. Open up Messenger
2. Tap on your profile icon at the top left.
3. From there, scroll down until you see the "Chat Heads"
4. Toggle and tap on it.

If you are having trouble or previous Android version

1. Got to settings (may look like a gear) top right of the Android phone)
2. Select "Apps"
3. Tap on this three dotted icons
4. Go to "Special Access" and select "Apps that can appear on top".
5. Scroll down and look for messenger and then enable it.
6. Close
7. Complete steps 1–3 above
8. To make sure that this "Chat heads", it's enabled.

If you're using Android Marshmallow and chat heads aren't appearing…

To turn on chat heads in Android Marshmallow:

1. In Messenger, tap your profile picture in the top right
2. Scroll down and tap Chat heads
3. Tap Go To Settings
4. Toggle on "Permit drawing over other apps"

Two options,

1. Download a creditable Chat Heads app that works independently of that facebook in the Apple Store by other app developers.
   1. Having trouble over ride iOS blocking internal non Apple Apps
2. Finding a credible tweaking app from a 3rd party app store example the alternative App Store such as Cydia

Having trouble with your stock app with messenger:

1. 1st enable internal (developer) menue for the iOS messenger app
2. Now open Messenger
3. Will say “Me” at the top
4. Scroll down to “Internal” then tap
5. Tip: you will pass “chat heads” after “Secret conversations” and before “Links open exsternally” while you are scrolling to “internal”
6. Scroll down to “features “its after “Caches”
7. Scroll down to chat heads sub menu and enable “Dont hide over messenger” to permitently enable chat heads.

Desktop Chat Heads with Messenger

1. Using the Google Chrome brouser
2. Download A Facebook Messenger for Chrome from the Google Chrome Web Store
3. Then download a free extension to do the job, such as Faces.im
4. You will then get an added extension on the top right of your browser with directions on how to use it.
