Can the PS5 shortage last for the console's whole lifespan?

Doubt it.

On average, the console’s lifespan in terms of it being the latest device the company before the next device had been released is generally 5 to 7 years. See the list down below.

PS1 = 1994

PS2 = 2000 (6 years)

PS3 = 2006 (6 years)

PS4 = 2013 (7 years)

Xbox = 2001

Xbox 360 = 2005 (4 years, which is shorter than the average release gaps, but not without its repercussions being the RROD)

Xbox One = 2013 (8 years)

N64 = 1996

GameCube = 2001 (5 years)

Wii = 2006 (5 years)

Wii U = 2012 (6 years)

Switch = 2017 (5 years)

Now here’s the thing, considering that the primary reasons why there’s a shortage is because of the pandemic temporarily shutting down businesses on hopes to limit the spread of the virus. Mas como já havia sido dito pela Sony e todos os outros, isso provavelmente seria corrigido até 2022(ish). Por essa altura, a versão slim ou Pro do console também deveria estar no horizonte.

Entretanto, o melhor seria que as pessoas continuassem com a PS4 até que este problema fosse resolvido e não apenas adicionar ao problema indo atrás dos scalpers.
